Diamond Update 7/30

I ran north of Oreburgh to Route 207 to do some leveling and catch Machop. While I was there, Shinx evolved into Luxio. Since Kricketot evolves early, I spent a little time training one of them to evolve into Kricketune. Without a bike, Route 207 is another dead end so I went back to Oreburgh to make my way back to Jubilife.

I went north to Route 204 again. I taught Machop how to Rock Smash and cut through the Ravaged Path to the other end of Route 204. There weren't any new Pokémon before reaching Floaroma Town. I talked to all the people in town, then headed east to the Valley Windworks. I couldn't get inside without a key, but I caught Buizel, Pachirisu, and Shellos in the grass outside. One of the Buizel I caught has a good mix of IVs so I'm using it in my team.

I returned to Floaroma and took the northeast exit to the Meadow, handled two more Galactic Grunts and rescued the guy that sells honey. He gave me the Windworks key and a sample of his honey, which I slathered on the tree by his house. Then I ran back to the Valley Windworks to remove the Galactic infestation. I didn't have any problems against the commander thanks to Kadabra and Machop. The little girl from Route 205 was reunited wither her dad and I slathered honey on the tree outside of the Windworks before healing in Floaromo and traveling up Route 205. I battled all the trainers and healed at the house in front of the entrance to the forest.

Inside the Eterna Forest, I had to pair up with Cheryl, a girl with a Chansey. It's very difficult to catch the Pokémon you want during these team ups, so my strategy is to travel in the grass as little as possible while I get the person to the other end of the route we are traveling together and backtrack by myself to catch Pokémon. Cheryl and I defeated all the trainer pairs and made it to the exit with only one wild Pokémon  ppearance. Once she left, I went back and started catching new Pokémon. I found Silcoon, Murkrow, Wurmple, Buneary, and Beautifly. I caught a couple extra Wurmple to try and evolve into Cascoon and Dustox.

I finally made it to Eterna City and walked around talking to lots of different people. I found the underground man and got my Explorer Kit. I did the underground training and even found a moon stone while I was down there. Then I went to the Gym and beat Gardenia and her Grass pokemon. Roserade defeated Kadabra in one hit but Staravia beat her. I walked around town looking for any more freebies, and then backtracked to check on all the trees I slathered honey on. One wasn't ready, one had a Wurmple and the last one had a Silcoon. I was a little disappointed. I teleported back to Eterna and saved the game.

Starting Pokémon SoulSilver

My old save file in SoulSilver had the shiny legendary trio and Celebi from the download events. I traded them and my Totodile to HeartGold before deleting my save file and starting a new one. Like the other games in my Pokédex Quest, I am starting 3 times and trading my starter so that I can have data for all three from the beginning.

Silver is officially starting with Totodile since Gold started with Cyndaquil and I'm not a big fan of Chikorita. I'm going to soft reset for a nature that boosts Attack or Speed.

Edit: Well, I didn't keep a nature that boosts Attack or Speed. I kept a Rash Totodile (+Special Attack/- Special Defense) with Mischievous as his Characteristic. I couldn't pass up a Pokémon with a perfect Special Attack IV and a nature that boosts Special Attack.

After delivering the Mystery Egg to Professor Elm, I caught Hoothoot and Rattata on Route 29 and a Geodude on Route 46. I traded Rattata and Hoothoot to Gold for my Chikorita and Cyndaquil. I saved at Cherrygrove, ready to move on.

Starting Pokémon White

I forgot how far into the game you have to get before you can trade. It takes much longer to be able to trade in these games than in any other. I'm going to end up doing the same thing I did when Black and White first came out: only starting a new game twice in White and having all three starters between both games. Black had an extra Tepig and a Pansage that I will send to White. I started with Snivy and traded him and Panpour to Black. Now I'm starting with Oshawott. Once I get my Pansear and my first badge, I'll trade extra Patrat, Lilipup, Pidove and/or Purloin to Black for the Snivy, Tepig, Pansage and Panpour to have all 3 starters and all 3 monkeys in White. I'm going with Oshawott because, other than a short Nuzlocke Challenge, I've only used Snivy and Tepig in my gen 5 games.

My game is currently saved right in front of the package from Professor Juniper so I can soft reset for an Oshawott with a good nature.

Edit: I spent more time soft resetting White than Silver. I finally settled for a Hasty, female Oshawott that Likes to thrash about. She was fast enough to attack before Cheren's Snivy. I wasn't looking for "Likes to thrash about" because it means my best stat is Attack instead of Special Attack, but it's another perfect IV and I was happy to have a female with a speed boosting nature.

After we talked to Professor Juniper, I caught Patrat and Lilipup. I made it to the Pokémon center and took Juniper's tour, then went outside to the presentation Team Plasma was putting on. I beat N's Purloin with my Oshawott and she reached level 9.

I took Route 2 toward Striation City and caught Purloin. I leveled my Pokémon a bit before taking on Bianca, then entered the city. I went straight to the Dreamyard to battle the two trainers and get my Pansear, and then went to the Trainer's School to show Cheren who's boss. I healed and went to the Striation Gym to battle Cilan. After I earned my badge, Fennel met me outside and gave me my first HM and asked me to gather some Dream Mist from the Dreamyard. I taught Cut to Purloin and entered the Dreamyard. Bianca met up with me there. We found Team Plasma beating up a Munna to get some dream mist of their own, and I put a stop to it. Fennel arrived and got the Dream Mist she wanted, and I wandered the grass until I caught Munna. It actually didn't take me long to find one, and I found a second one right after.

Back at Fennel's Lab, she gave me the C Gear and explained it's uses and I was finally able to trade Black for the other 2 starter Pokémon and the two other monkeys. I healed and saved at the Striation Gym, ready to move on to Route 3.

Diamond Update 7/29

July is almost over and I've hardly made any progress in Diamond yet!

I won my first badge, Abra evolved into Kadabra and Starly evolved into Staravia. I haven't had much time to play games on my days off the last couple of weeks, but I have the next two nights off so I will be sure to make some significant progress with my Pokédex.

Diamond Update 7/17

On Route 202 I caught Shinx and Kricketot. In Jubilife, I got a Town Map from my rival, TM10 for beating the two kids at the Trainer School, and found the three clowns and got a Poketch. Someone also gave me a Quick Claw, which I gave to Turtwig to hold.

Next, I went west to Route 218 and got an Old Rod in the gatehouse between Jubillife and the route. I used my new Old Rod to catch Magikarp. There was no where else to go, so I turned around and went back.

When I got back to Jubilife I headed north to Route 204 where I caught Budew and battled some trainers. One kid had Magikarp. It wasn't even worth battling him. Beating his Starly got my Shinx to level 10 though.

I stepped into the Ravaged Path long enough to catch Zubat (shocking, I know) and Geodude. It took forever to find Geodude, but I got 2 in a row. I didn't even want to try for Psyduck. The cave was a dead end for now, so I went back to Jubilife City again.

I finally headed east to Route 203 and Oreburgh City where the first gym is located. As soon as I stepped foot on the route, my rival was ready for a battle. I had Turtwig in front against his Starly. Quick Attack was only doing about 4 damage to Turtwig and in 3 Tackles, Starly was down. I used Shinx against his Chimchar. The two must have had the same speed because they kept alternating who would attack first. Shinx's Tackle wasn't doing much damage and she missed once. Chimchar used Leer a couple times and knocked Shinx out with only two Scratches. Starly finished off Chimachar with a Wing Attack and grew to level 11. I went back and healed, then ran in the grass of Route 203 until I found Abra. Usually I would use a bug or grass pokemon with Sleep Powder to catch Abra, but I don't have one so I just threw a ball and hoped that it would stick. It didn't. The first time. The second Abra I found stayed in the ball.

It was getting late (in my backwards life where 10:00 AM is late) and I needed sleep before work so I saved there and turned my DS off.

Starting Diamond & Pearl

I meant to only play only one of the Diamond and Pearl series. My file in Pearl didn't even have one badge yet so I was just going to restart it from the beginning. Looking through my games the other day, I found out that Diamond only had 1 badge. So I decided to restart both. I'm starting new files and trading the starter over to make sure that both games get all three for their pokedex.

Diamond will be the main focus for my Pokedex Quest and I'm starting with Turtwig. I haven't decided what I will do with Pearl yet. I may set it aside and play it as a Nuzlocke Challenge when I finish with my Pokedex Quest or I might just progress far enough to catch the Pokemon that I can't get in Diamond. Either way Pearl will mainly be used to support Diamond. Pearl's starter will be Chimchar. I needed Pokemon to trade for the other 2 starters so I caught a couple Starly and Bidoof in both games.

Both games are saved at the Pokemon Center in Sandgem town, ready to officially begin their adventutre. Both have currently seen and owned 5 pokemon.
